Food safety requires urgent attention, notably chemically contaminated goods imported from China, such as milk powder for infants, in which can sometimes be found traces of insecticides and melamine. Since these goods are cheap they are bought by a large number of people who think that they have gone through quality and safety inspections.
Prices of goods have been adjusted upward in accordance with the cost of petrol since the beginning of 2008. But although petrol prices have been adjusted downwards since the middle of 2008, food prices have not been scaled down in keeping with this adjustment.
