In the first six months of 2008 and during the Songkraan Festival, there was a steady decrease in road accidents. Between 2004 and 2008 traffic accidents decreased because of cooperation from the public and private organizations involved in accident prevention.
The causes of traffic accidents in previous years were people disobeying traffic regulations, such as exceeding the speed limit, reckless overtaking and driving while drunk.
