Since its establishment, ThaiHealth has accumulated a great deal of experience on implementing programs for health promotion. However, this information has been widely dispersed, and is not well organized or synthesized. Many partner organizations have lacked the skills necessary for carrying out work at the national level. There is a lack of mechanisms for coordinating activities by different organizations.
Activities
- Center for information management and coordination
A center for information management and coordination for national health is being developed. The center will provide a one-stop service. An information system is being constructed to improve the quality of information and reduce redundancy. Annual health reports are being produced. Key partner institutions include the Ministry of Public Health, the Health Systems Research Institute, and the Institute for Population and Social Research.
- Support policy-relevant research
ThaiHealth supports strategic studies and public policy by funding policy-relevant research. In concrete term; support will be given to the following: 1) research work that contributes directly to existing projects; 2) utilization of existing research; 3) community efforts to solve their problems systematically; 4) dissertation funds; and 5) scholarships for medical students who perform well, but lack resources. There is also an open fund for general research.
- Capacity-building for ThaiHealth personnel
The skills of ThaiHealth personnel will be enhance through the following means: 1) basic training; 2) a mentor system; 3) needs assessment for annual training; 4) the creation of a work environment that encourages the exchange of knowledge; 5) provision of training by staff; 6) internal knowledge management development; 7) encouraging public-mindedness; and 8) evaluations.
- Capacity-building for partner organizations
Partner organizations will be supported to carry out capacity building for their personnel.
- Meetings
ThaiHealth organizes local and international meetings on health promotion.
- Management structure
ThaiHealth will develop its management infrastructure to increase the efficient use of information.
- Collaboration with other Health Promotion Organizations.
ThaiHealth exchanges lessons learned with the World Health Organization and with health promotion organizations in other countries. The knowledge gained through these exchanges is used to enhance global health promotion efforts.
