Dr. Phumin Leeteeraprasert, Deputy spokesman of Office of the Prime Minister, has announced that the Cabinet agrees to draft a bill of regulations and conditions for showing pictures for advertising or public relations of alcoholic drinks …, which Office of the Council of State has considered in accordance with the Ministry of Public Health’s suggestions. There are some significant matters, such as definition of symbol of alcohol drinks, and of images and symbols of makers of alcohol drinks. The bill will also determine how these pictures should be broadcast.

Dr. Phumin stated that any picture-shows must be accompanied with information, news, and knowledge how to promote communal well being. These pictures must not boast any quality, benefits of alcohol drinks, or directly or indirectly induce alcohol consumption. Any given information must provide moral, cultural and scientific knowledge for the wellbeing of society.

Dr. Phumin said that “There must not be any picture of alcohol product or its contents, either in whole or in parts. There are regulations for showing pictures or symbols. For instance, printed advertisement must not be more than 5% of the advertising space. With regard to TV, VD or other mass media, it must not exceed 5% of the total advertising area, and not more than 5 % of the overall broadcasting time. It must not be more than 2 seconds on TV between 22.00hr-05.00hr”.
